Our service

Mears Home Improvements Oxfordshire works in partnership with South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils to provide a vital service to older people, people with disabilities and other vulnerable homeowners who live within the designated districts.

We meet the needs of householders living in different accommodation types and supports homeowners, tenants and people living in the private rented sector. Our services do not include the maintenance tasks that are the responsibility of the local authority, or private or registered social landlords.

Our service provides information, signposting and assistance with housing repairs, improvements, renovations and adaptations, which support and promote independent living at home.

We also provide a small repairs service to undertake, minor adaptations and a handyman service that help people maintain their independence and improve their safety and quality of life.

We also offer confidential advice, support and assistance:

  • Visiting you at home to discuss and advise on any problems you have with the condition of your home
  • Exploring your housing options and helping you decide which is best for you
  • Availability of grants from statutory bodies
  • Helping you obtain other local support services
  • Checking whether you are entitled to any financial help (for example, disability benefits, or money to help you repair or adapt your home)
  • Helping with any work you decide to have carried out on your home. For example drawing up plans, getting estimates and liaising with others involved in the work, such as contractors, council grants officers and occupational therapists
  • Home from Hospital assists with the fitting of keysafes, grab rails and moving furniture to enable early and safe release from hospital.
  • Target hardening benefits those who have suffered a burglary, and involves ensuring that all security measures are looked at such as window locks, door locks, door chains etc.
  • Oxfordshire Warm Homes Healthy People, helping you to make your home more energy-efficient and can deliver practical support to those who are most vulnerable and in some cases could provide extra support to improve the effectiveness of heating systems.
